Launch Complex 36 was constructed in support of the Atlas-Centaur rocket program. It was originally envisioned as a single blockhouse, single launch pad facility, but a second launch pad was added. The blockhouse and Launch Pad 36A were built at a cost of about $6.5 million and were occupied by NASA in February, 1961. Launch Pad 36B was built at a cost of about $6.5 million and was occupied by NASA in July, 1964. Each launch pad was supported by its own single mobile service tower. Launch Complex 36 was the oldest modern launch complex to utilize an on-site blockhouse. The blockhouse served Launch Complex 36 from its first launch to its last. The complex is currently being leased and renovated by Blue Origin for future launch activity.
